Purpose of this Site
The L2PT has been designed to assist post-primary and special schools in developing learning programmes to meet the specific needs of students within the range of general learning disabilities. The learning programmes are built around five Priority Learning Units (PLUs), which focus on learning which is basic in comprehension and is well supported.
- Communicating and Literacy
- Personal care
- Living in a community
- Preparing for working life
The L2PT will enable teachers to both plan and coordinate their planning based around the specific learning of their students.
Over the three years in junior cycle, students will assemble evidence of their learning in a portfolio. It is envisaged that students will have the opportunity to submit their portfolio for a Level 2 qualification within the context of the Junior Cycle Developments.
The Learning Programmes and qualification are due to be introduced in schools in 2014. This Toolkit is being made available for use on a trial basis now.
The NCCA advises the Minister for Education and Skills on curriculum and assessment from early childhood to the end of second level. For more information about NCCA, please see http://www.ncca.ie/en/About_Us/
Use and Obligations
Teachers using the L2PT will be able to register on the system, once a lead teacher has first registered on behalf of the school. All teachers, including the lead teacher, using the L2PT will be enabled to add, edit, access and search the programme plans for a list of their students.
As this is a school-wide Level 2 Planning Tool for students of the Junior Cycle. The lead teacher will also be able to:
- Enter/edit school details
- Add/edit student details
- Assign teachers to students
The lead teacher will also be able to monitor and adjust the Level 2 Learning Programme of any and all students based on teacher, parent and student feedback. They will further be able to assign PLUs, Elements and Learning Outcomes to each student.
The teachers of each student will have access to the part of the Learning Programme that is based around their subject areas for each student on the Programme. This can also be edited by them at any stage.
The L2PT has, in addition, the ability to allow “sign-off” by the teacher in charge of the student based on work completed per Learning Outcome.
The L2PT will also make available a download of a complete Student Plan as a Word Document and/or PDF, if required.
We insist that, in using the service, you abide by the rules, policies and codes of conduct detailed herein.

The registration information provided is not visible to users from other schools other than to L2PT administrators for the purposes outlined below in section 10.
